Transactional data is complicated.
We love a good challenge.

We're a team of data scientists, engineers, designers, and other technical experts empowering people to discover stories in data.

About Us

Second Measure is a technology company that analyzes billions of anonymized purchases to answer real-time questions on consumer behavior.

Through our self-service platform, we help our clients—some of the world’s largest brands and investment firms—identify fast-growing companies, benchmark competitors, and better understand their customers.

We’re based in the Bay Area with an office in New York, and we’re proudly backed by Y Combinator, Bessemer Venture Partners, Jefferies Investment Group, and other top investors.

Rooted in Data

Our team hails from data-rich environments in both academia and industry—everything from ad tech and video games to cognitive neuroscience and high-energy physics.

This diversity of thought fosters novel solutions. We draw on statistical techniques from a range of fields to solve the complex problems of transactional data enrichment, normalization, and visualization.

We believe transactional data is most valuable when our clients can use it to answer their own questions.

By providing not just the data, but an exploratory platform, we empower our clients to uncover their own insights.

Our Founders

Mike Babineau and Lillian Chou met while building large-scale infrastructure and pipelines to help their colleagues query crucial data. They realized that other companies also wanted complex datasets to be made accessible for real-time exploration—without a data scientist in the room. Mike and Lillian built a team well-versed in approaches from the tech world to develop a product that bridges the gap between raw transactional data and consumer behavior knowledge.
